BGS Sailing makes waves

BGS Sailing represented Australia at the 2023 Interdominion Team Sailing Championship, hosted by Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in September.

The best sailing schools from Australia and New Zealand compete for the Interdominion Trophy. С»Æ¹Ï×ÊÔ´Õ¾ was one of only two Australian schools at this regatta, an opportunity earned by our performance at the National Championships held in July.

After seven rounds (three full days) of sailing conducted in a spirited yet well-mannered style, BGS finished overall second in the Open Division, an excellent performance, completing the most successful and decorated season in the sport’s history at the School.

To the pleasure of the home crowd, Australia was the outright winner, claiming the Interdominion Trophy from the combined results of the women’s and open divisions.

BGS Sailing was again represented admirably by Captain Matty Goss (Year 12), Vice-Captain Ollie van der Slot (Year 12), Pierre Giggins (Year 11), Will Bennett (Year 10), Dmitry Sorokin (Year 10), Kylan Thompson (Year 10), Leo Jansen (Year 9) and Aiden O’Connell (Year 8). A special mention to both Matty and Ollie, and their families, who represented BGS Sailing for the final time, after six seasons of enthusiasm and promotion of the sport.

We sincerely thank our attending coach Ethan O’Brien (OB 2018) and Hugh Hamilton (BGS staff member) and the tremendous support of the travelling BGS parents and families for their time and energy.

Go Tonners!
